Biography Rap and hip-hop proves to be alive and kicking in the country as Loonie releases his debut EP under major label MCA Music entitled “Ultrasound”. Produced by Loonie himself and Klumcee, it features the carrier single “Pilosopo” with Smugglaz, now playing on radio stations and music video channels MYX and MTV Pinoy. “Ultrasound” also includes the hit single “Tao Lang”- his collaboration with Quest, “Bago Ang Lahat” featuring rap artist Ron Henley and Kat Alano, “Tanyag” featuring Abra and Syke, “Abante” featuring Kat Agarrado”, “Ultrasound” featuring DJ Buddah, “Isang Jeep” featuring HipHop 22 and “Ang Bagong Ako” with Greyhoundz.
A lyrically gifted rapper, Loonie is respected in the rap and hip-hop circle and idolized by many. Born Marlon Peroramas in Pasig City, rap and hip-hop entered his life when he was in third grade and it never left him. Besides listening to Naughty by Nature, Apocalipsis and Gloc9, Loonie was a huge fan of Alanis Morrissette. It is the 90’s angst-y songstress who got him into writing his very own lyrics. Loonie learned from the best in honing his rap skills in both English and Tagalog. At 16, he joined the “Rappublic of the Philippines” contest at noontime show Eat Bulaga as group Stick Figgas with his best friend Ron Henley. Though they didn’t win, the country’s master rapper Francis Magalona took him under his wings and became part of his crew of “hype men” during gigs and concerts. His group was also featured in the “Rappublic of the Philippines Volume 1 and 2” compilation album in 2003 and 2004 respectively. In 2004, he was crowned Power Emcee 108 Battled Champion and became the undisputed Fliptop King. Loonie considers Fliptop as his hobby, however, it’s the same hobby that made him a YouTube sensation. Every Fliptop video Loonie puts out always gets a million or more hits.
With “Ultrasound” now out, there’s no stopping Loonie in spreading rap and hip-hop all over the country. As long as there are experiences, Loonie will keep on rapping and expressing himself.
“This EP is special to me and I’m thankful to everyone who supported it,” Loonie said.
“Ultrasound” is now out in CDs at Astroplus, Odyssey and SM Music and Video under MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines). It is also available through digital downloads via spinnr.ph and iTunes. Ano ba ang dapat na gawin? Dapat bang kamuhian o dapat ba na tularan ang ‘sang tulad ko na tao lang
First of all, we don’t have the right to judge right away. This issue has been running around way back and it’s a bit suspicious if you look at it. Loonie has been one of the Philippines’ famous rap icon. A family man and a figure that stands against his foes with his hard-hitting and bone-crushing lyrical assaults in his viral hip-hop tracks. You can’t please everybody and one of them is the government that has been pounding this issue and tries to slap the accusation to someone and it happens to be now Loonie. He has been through a lot and from a fan’s perspective and the Pinoy hip-hop community, we all know this is far from his doing. He’s been battling many cases of known everyday life issues through his music, spreading awareness and definitely setting an example to the youth and the nation but this recent news is totally the opposite.
Recently, also they have managed to take a hit against another rising Pinoy rap sensation, Shanti Dope, and his viral track, Amatz. Calling a ban to the song as it “promotes the use of marijuana” they say. Na triggered lang dahil sa tema ng kanta kaso mang-mang halos at hindi nila naiintindihan ang kultura ng hiphop.
Again, we don’t know the story behind it. Some are saying it’s a set-up, a lot are bashing through comments in the social media. They have the nerve since it’s way too easy to just jot down words, makeup accusations, tell negative thoughts about the individual and shit, common millennial mentality and bullshitery.Matatapang ‘yang mga yan since nasa likod lang sila ng smartphones nila, malayo and can access internet. I bet pag personal nilang buhay kinamkam, luluhod kayo ng sakto. As the saying says,
don’t speak unless you know the whole truth
Marijuana is yet to be legalized here in the Philippines. Although there are already studies, proof that it has medicinal effects, we can’t still encourage its use anywhere. We still have to abide by government rules. Pinoy hip-hop or hip-hop, in general, has been always been tied up with the famous herbal, its recreational use or purpose to the individual. His or her experiences expressed through music. In my opinion, it sprouted from Earth and the creator made many living things and shit has its own purpose and this plant may have been intended for recreational or pleasure. It’s even said to help cancer patients, too. Many are appealing for its legalization. Other countries like Canada already did because of the benefit they saw in it. I say the real culprit they must seize is the shabu kind of drug which obviously destroys many lives.
As a Pinoy hip-hop enthusiast for many years, we pray for the truth behind this issue and deep down, Loonie has been remarkable in his craft and it’s just very unlikely something like this will be pinned down against him. We’ve known him on how he represents and be a figure that addresses the life battles that many faces emanated in each rhyme and flows in his songs.

PHS: This UPRISING? what is it about? sino sino ang member nito at pano ito nabuo?
KJah: UPRISING (An independent music label and management company owned and managed by FlipTop Battle League's Anygma and Music Colony's DJ Rye. Artists signed under the label includes Protege, Anygma, Zaito, Kjah, RBTO and BLKD. Also part of the roster are some of the best Producers and DJs in the country, Supreme Fist, Umph, Sloj and Rye.) PHS: So it's like a super team? who pick it's members sir?
KJah:Si Anygma at Rye na s'ya ring nagpapatakbo sa Upri. Hindi kami dumedepende sa kung anong ibansag sa amin, super o wackest kahit ano haha. Basta ang layunin namin, gumawa ng musika, ipakalat, tapos gumawa ulit. Yun na mismo! PHS: That's dope. it somehow reminds me of ampon, do you think may similarities ito sa nasabing group? KJah: Meron. Parehas kaming gumagawa ng rap, haha! Hindi ko pa masyadong kabisado ano pa yung pagkakaparehas namin. Pero syempre, may malaking pagkakaiba sa bawat kampo. Kasi kung hindi ito magkakaiba, edi dapat iisang grupo na lang sila. PHS: Kunsabagay...Tukuyin naman nating ang fliptop...bakit madalang na ang mga laban sir? mas focus naba ngayon sa music?ano sa tingin mo ang naging kagandahan at kapangitan(kung meron man) ng fliptop sa larangan ng hiphop? KJah: Oo, mas nakatuon ang atensyon ko ngayon sa Musika. Masyado nang maraming magaling sa Fliptop, hindi na nila ko kelangan. PHS: I don't believe that sir, pero kung sakaling masalang ulit sino ang gusto mong makaharap? do you think mangyayari pa ang Kjah vs BLKD? KJah: Kung SAKALING sasabak ulit ako.. kahit sino.
PHS: Your moniker, KJAH does that have any meaning? can you tell us a bit something about it? KJah: Sa katunayan niyan wala naman siyang ganoong kalalim na ibig sabihin, kung mismong pangalan ang tutukuyin. Naisip ko lang yan, nasa 13 years old ako. Madalas kong laruin yung GTA, tapos laging KJAH Radio Station ang pinapakinggan ko pag nagnanakaw ng kotche (dun sa laro). Minsan, habang nilalaro ko yung larong yun, biglang ginusto kong maging rapper. At sa pagkakaalam ko, ang rapper itinitago ang sariling pangalan, para sa proteksyon na din ng personal kong pagkatao. Ayun, KJah unang pumasok sa isip ko. Hahaha! Bale, simbolo siya na bata pa lang ako, nang pinangarap ko yung ginagawa ko ngayong patanda na ako.
PHS: Thats dope, so it comes to that game pala thats interesting...what inspires you to be an artist?
who are the artist you look up to? KJah: Hindi ko sigurado kung ano eksaktong edad ko noon, sabihin na natin 6 years old o 5. Pinatugtog ng tiyuhin ko at nanay ko yung "Tayoy mga Pinoy" ni FrancisM., doon ako unang nakarinig ng RAP at talagang naaliw ako bilang bata. Hanggang medyo nagbibinata, RAP na talaga kinahiligan ko, simulan natin sa RAP PUBLIC, hanggang sa lumalalim ng lumalalim ang gusto kong pakinggan, o dumating na ko sa puntong nagsasakliksik na ako sa kasaysayan ng hiphop. At eto na nga yung panahon na yun. Tuloy tuloy ang pag-aaral ko sa kultura ng Hiphop, unang una sa elemento ng RAP. Foreign: idolo ko si NAS, Eminem, Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Dead Prez, Royce da 5'9, Tupac, Biggie, Mos Def, Common, Jay Z, The Game. Sobrang dami kung iisa isahin. Sa Tagalog Rap naman: Francis M., Gloc9, 1st album ng Stick Figgas, mga kasamahan ko sa UPRISING, Death Threat.

KJah: Salamat sa mga bumili ng album ko, at sa mga nagpupunta sa mga gigs kung saan nandoon ako at nagtatanghal. Kayo ang nagpapatatag sakin, at nagbibigay ng malaking dahilan kung bakit hindi ako dapat sumuko kahit mahirap maging rapper sa pilipinas, unang una, napakahirap kumita sa trabahong ito, lalo na kung malalim na usapin ang tinatalakay.
