Rapper faces libel case for ‘ridiculing’ fellow artists

SOME rappers spit rhymes against their rival rappers in a fliptop battle, but some do the word war in court.

Marlon “Loonie” Peroramas was charged with libel by couple Wolfren “Dice” Rosaroso and Honeyleen “Hi-C” Rosaroso, for allegedly ridiculing his fellow rap artists in a music magazine.

In his resolution, Prosecutor Ferdinand Collantes of the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office found enough evidence to indict Peroramas with libel, a violation under the Revised Penal Code.

Peroramas will face trial in court.

Bail was set at P10,000 for the accused, who failed to submit his counter-affidavit.

The rapper allegedly ridiculed and criticized Wolfren and Honeyleen of Cebuano act Dice and K9/Mobstarr in Pulp, a nationally circulated music magazine.

Dice and K9 broke into the national music scene with their hit single, “Itsumo.”

Last April, couple Wolfren and Honeyleen, owners of record label 6000 Goonz, were told to get a copy of Pulp magazine for Peroramas issued “derogatory” remarks against them.

Honeyleen called her sister in Manila and asked the latter to send her a copy of the magazine.

She received the magazine on April 3 and was able to read Peroramas’ statement: “Now only Two Goonz, a group that is led by a couple who are posers, who know nothing but to manipulate new rappers to write them songs because they do not have talent.”

“After exploiting them, they will destroy them if they become bigger than them (Dice and K9). Examples of those who left Dice and K9 and did not return were K9 himself, Klumcee and me,” Peroramas further said. “Whoever is talented, they will approach him.

They will promise anything just to have a private army. They are very arrogant. They
are just one-hit wonders who did not even write (the song).”

Because of Peroramas’ remarks, Wolfren and Honeyleen sued him.

“We were so embarrassed and humiliated when the said libelous remarks
were) published nationwide,” said the couple in their affidavit.

Apokalipsis

A.P.O.K.A.L.I.P.S.I.S.

Ang
Pahayag
Katotohanan
At
Lirikong
Isinulat
Para
Sa
Inaping
Sugatan.

A.P.O.K.A.L.I.P.S.I.S (Ang Pahayag O Katotohanan At Lirikong Isinulat Para Sa Inaping Sugatan) is a new-age hip-hop group composed of Duanesis, Rhyxodus and DJ Savage. Their first single, "'SANG LINGGO" from their debut self-titled album under Real Deal Entertainment & ILL KAMP label, is a showcase of the trio's spittin' ill lyrics and infectiously tight beats.

The "APOKALIPSIS" album is a versicolored trip into the inner realms of hardcore Pinoy hip hop. Through the 17 tracks the listeners is pleasantly transported into a youthful subculture which gives a clear glimpse of how they react to issues, life, love and other stimuli which affect their very existence.

In all honesty, the trio of Duane V. G. (Duanesis), Rhyxson B. C. (Rhyxodus) and Greg M.L. III (DJ Savage), rap what they want to communicate in moving and sometimes disturbing songs such as "Salapi," "Magdamag," "Serbesa," and "Digmaan". In every song, they put across a message which they hope could be understood by listeners of all ages.

Duanesis believes that with the right skills and attitude, he can spread his message and revitalize the synergy of hip hop. On his part, Rhyxodus strives to reinvent freestyle rap with more sense and rhythm. The collaboration hopes to bring hip hop to a higher level, from which a wider audience can appreciate it and relate to hip hop sentiments which are but parts of our daily lives.

Then came the newest addition to the group, DJ Savage, who gave some input to their debut album under Real Deal Entertainment & ILL KAMP label. His being a guest DJ on the album was not enough, so APOKALIPSIS is no longer a duo to reckoned with but a trio with endless hip hop potentials.

Dice & K9/ Moobstarr

Dice & K9/ Moobstarr
Dice and K9 or better known in the HipHop community as Mobbstarr is a hip-hop collective composed of producers, rappers and a singer. Formed in 2002, the group first enjoyed mainstream success with their smash hit Itsumo which propelled their second album entitled Mobbstarr to hip-hop royalty status. Their first album Mobb Music which was released exclusively in Cebu made enough noise for them to be noticed by industry giants like Warner Music . Songs like The Scenario and Itsumo impressed them so much that they decided to offer a distribution deal for Dice and K9/Mobbstarr’s second album to be distributed nationwide and in some parts of Asia as well. The group packed their bags and headed off to Manila to start promoting and touring. Even nominated for 2004 MTV Asia awards for Favorite Group which was held in Indonesia. Itsumo became a household name as it stayed in the radio charts for weeks and weeks. It was even one of the most downloaded ringtones in 2003 - 2004 as it resonated all throughout the year with its catchy bass-line and infectious hook. They bagged awards for 2003 Song of The Year in Davao and Cebu, Best Rap Group in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Annual Hip-hop Awards in 2005, 2006 and 2007, “THA JOURNEY” of DiCE and k9 MOBBSTARR is said to be the most expensive album the group has ever had. Their 1st single “6 In Tha Mornin’” bagged 2006 Awit awards Best Rap song, the video of the same song also included in the line up of nominees for 2006 MTV Video Music Awards - Favorite HipHop/ RnB song the only HipHop artist in the line up of 50.
Their latest opus entitled Time, Space, Rhythm, Starrs showcases the group’s ever-evolving sound, sticking to the fool-proof formula that made them a household name at the same time experimenting with outlandish soundscapes that will soon propel them to legendary status.

They are ready for the World…

Added info: first Hiphop group that released an album under Cebu City's 6000 Goonz Label... Before Dice & K-9 became popular here and abroad... Their group was called Anthill Mobb which is composed of K-9, Pain & Dice...They've been makin' & sellin their music independently in Cebu... The trio released there first album in 1996 entitled "Modus Operandi" and followed it up in 2000 with their Album "All Art is A Game with & Fight Against Chaos" and it is also the year that the group and 6000 Goonz roster was featured in "Vibestation's Urban MYX"... where everyone became aware of the growing Hiphop scene in Cebu... In the said episode... their first music video "21st Century" from their second album was aired... But after the album "Pain", they went on hiatus... A couple of years they were reborn as Dice & K9, and they took over the airwaves with their Mega-Hit "Itsumo"... Then the rest is history...

Stick Figgas

Stick Figgas

The Stick Figgas were formed on 2001 by four junior high school students who shared the same passion for hip-hop music. The members back then were Loonie, Xplizit, Tuff and part-time member Kannabis. These four aspiring emcees kept themselves busy by making homemade recordings of themselves over looped beats. Then they started performing at schools and opened up for local acts like Apokalipsis and Legit Misfitz at various bars in Malate. They faced major challenges and and a lot of rejection during the early stages of their career. Then after joining a local rap contest held at Sta. Lucia and losing to rap group 9mm, an Eat Bulaga representative took notice of their potential and asked them if they wanted to open up the show's new rap contest entitled: "Rappublic of the Philippines". The trio didn't hesitate and were on national television 3 days after the Sta. Lucia contest. The Stick Figgas went on to make the Grand Finals but lost to rap group Koponan ni Batute. After going home with 5k as their consolation prize, the group decided to quit rap for good and concentrate on their studies instead. A month after the contest, group member Loonie received a text message from FrancisM's production assistant asking them if they wanted to appear on FrancisM's upcoming compilations and albums. Thinking it was just a prank from other Rappublic finalists, the Sticks didn't believe the text message at first. But after verifying the info from an inside contact at the T.A.P.E. office, plans changed and new group member Xquisite was introduced to the Sticks. The Stick Figgas continued their career without Tuff and Kannabis as both had to concentrate on their studies. They began recording professionally at the age of 16. Production for Rappublic of the Philippines started on September 2002. The compilation was released a year after. They toured different SM Mall branches across Luzon, appeared on radio and television to promote the Rappublic of the Philippines Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. They had just released their debut album entitled "Critical Condition" last March 2007 under 6000 Goonz. DJ Arbiewon, Ted Salinel, B-roc of Turbulence Productions and The Beatmonx provided superb production as well. Stick Figgas is now officially a duo composed of Loonie and Ron Henley.
